We start off with "ice breaker" conversations and activities so the student can develop confidence in themselves and trust in me as their tutor. The ice breakers will also help me gauge the student's fluency in colloquial conversations about topics they care about. In addition, if a K-12 student is involved, I will discuss specific student learning outcomes the guardians are looking for. Combining these elements will lead to creating an individualized learning plan for the student to increase their overall fluency in English and strengthen areas that need work.
