About Siena
I am passionate, curious, caring, and patient with my students at all reading and writing levels. I love inspiring my students to be curious about reading, encouraging them to write on their own for enjoyment, and to find what interests and excites them out in the world.
I graduated on the honor roll from elite NYC public high school Brooklyn Tech, and graduated from Macaulay Honors College in NYC with an Honors BA in Studio Art.
In addition to my extensive background in tutoring in English, I have helped my peers and students with college essays, editing, and proofreading. I scored top grades in AP English courses in high school, got top scores in the reading and writing sections of the SAT, excelled in my college English courses, and have written professionally in freelance jobs over the years.
Outside of tutoring and my passion for helping students with their reading and writing skills, I also work in the music industry and am a visual and musical artist on my own. I love writing poetry, songs, and have a special affinity for creative writing of all kinds.
The approach I use with my students is to help them learn how to utilize resources on their own to strengthen their reading and writing skills. I like molding my tutoring around the specific needs of each student, while helping them recognize and nurture their natural strengths and abilities.
I used to tutor my peers in college in essay writing as well as research papers across a wide range of subjects and made extra money proofreading, editing, and providing help with various types of academic papers. I have edited and proofread at a Masters's level as well as bachelor's level.
I started with helping kids I babysat in high school with their homework, and eventually tutoring them in writing and reading skills. I also assisted the children of family friends with some SAT prep and studying.
In college, I edited my peers' academic writing for extra money on the side of my school work and continued it from time to time after I graduated as well.
I graduated honor roll and with top scores in AP English classes from Brooklyn Technical High School, an elite specialized high school in New York City.
I then got my honors degree in studio arts from Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn College, with top grades while I tutored and helped students at my school with their writing.

I start by getting to know a bit about them, their interests/hobbies, what subjects interest them in school, and by asking them what they feel are their strengths and weaknesses.
After, I like to start with seeing samples of their writing and to hear about what they like to read. I also ask them to show me something they wrote that they're proud of, whether it's for school or just for themselves.
Each lesson should be tailored to what the student needs the most help in first and foremost. I like to deliver a comprehensive learning setting for my students to feel empowered to trust their instincts and natural voice. By focusing on the areas that the student needs help in while also strengthening the areas they do well in, I can offer a detailed and comprehensive tutoring experience that comes in to help through multiple angles.
I have worked with elementary school students, high school students, and college students from a variety of reading and writing levels.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my strengths? What are my weaknesses? What am I most excited and curious about learning? What are my current habits and studying methods and where am I looking to improve?
