About Allison

Hello all! My name is Allison Kifer and I am a third year undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego. As I am pursuing a molecular biology degree and literature/writing minor, I have much experience with biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, scientific research, and writing to help you achieve your goals. I have seen many students struggle to balance science and writing, but I hope that in whichever area you are struggling, I can offer my unique perspective and past experience.

Communication of ideas is crucial for progress to be made. I understand the frustration of having a teacher or professor who does not understand you, who cannot change their teaching style to meet your perspective. I enjoy creating personalized learning environments so that everyone can achieve their goals and make a more informed community.

Science:

I have taken biology labs, molecular biology labs, chemistry labs, chemistry, biology, physics, calculus, biochemistry, and genetics classes at my university.

Additionally, I work in a research laboratory on campus if you wish to have any guidance on how to get internships and what to expect in the work place.

Essay and Creative Writing:

I am the Editor in Chief for the Circuit Research Journal at my university, which has given me three years of writing, reading, and editing essays. I have also written for Saltman Quarterly, a science journal also at my university.

I have also been an Instructional Assistant for Creative Fiction Literature classes and can offer you more assistance outside of essay writing. I have taken five creative writing classes at my university and have a wide experience in poetry, creative fiction, and nonfiction works.

Since I have a wide range of topics I can teach, I would like to get to know what topics are difficult for you and breakdown why that might be. I would also like to know what your goals are for getting a tutor. Are you wanting to pass a class? Pass a specific test? Catch up in class? Get into university? Write a winning scholarship essay? I will tailor my skills to your goals.

I have worked with a wide range of students including different races, genders, sexual orientation, housing, and mental health backgrounds. If you are LGBTQ+ or come from any of these backgrounds, please know that I am here to support you in your academic efforts and will never judge you for who you are. Our meetings will always be a safe space.
