About Brittany
Background: I have had a lifelong passion for English, from writing short stories as a child to burying my nose in a book during any free moment since then. I tutored often in high school and college, and I'm looking to resume working with elementary, middle, high school or college students looking to improve their reading and writing abilities. Additionally, in college I was a peer mentor for three years in which I worked with 15-30 new students each year, providing them with support in their classes as they navigated their first year of college.
Education and Experience: I graduated from Sonoma State University in 2015 with a degree in Communication and Media Studies, with magna cum laude honors. I currently work for a global communications firm where I do integrating marketing and communications consulting work for well-known technology and consumer brands. My day-to-day work continues to include extensive writing and reading comprehension.

My first session usually includes a "get to know you" / Q&A session with both the student and the parents (if desired, and this can be separately or together, completely up to you!) to understand:
- The areas of English they love and why
- The area(s) they're looking to improve and why
- The methods they've tried previously to improve said area(s) and why those didn't work
- The ultimate goal (e.g. "improve my persuasive writing ability in order to pass a particular class or so I can write a compelling college admissions essay")
I also like to spend some time understanding how the student likes to work (e.g. if we're working to improve their reading comprehension, would they prefer to have a longer session and read through something together? Or would they prefer to read ahead of our session and spend the time together engaging in a live discussion or tackling practice questions? etc).
