About Stephanie
I am currently finishing up a Psychology B.A. and K-6 Education Certification at Montclair State University.
In my professional background I have gained experience working with students in a variety of age groups and settings. Through these diverse experiences I have come to develop a strong personal philosophy when it comes to educating the whole child. I additionally have experience tutoring students in grades K-8 in math, English Language Arts, science, and social studies.
My favorite part of working with students is building strong, positive relationships. I believe that students learn best from someone who they feel truly cares about them and their academic progress. My favorite moments with students are often creating silly inside jokes and, of course, seeing the symbolic lightbulb light up over my students' heads when they reach a deeper level of understanding of a concept that they were previously struggling with.
I have been working with students in educational settings for seven years. I began working in preschool settings and over the years I have enjoyed running an after school care program for students aged five to thirteen, substituting in elementary and middle school classrooms, and student teaching in an elementary school.
Over the years I have obtained a CDA for working with preschool students, a Psychology B.A., and am completing a program to obtain a K-6 Teaching Certification with endorsements in Middle School Mathematics and Social Studies this December. In addition, I have completed trainings and professional development opportunities relating to the different content areas as well as socio-emotial development of children, responsive planning, and posititive discipline.

Firstly, I believe it is important to start building a positive relationship with a new student from the first meeting. Dependent on the student's age, this could take the form of playing a game or simply taking the time to have a friendly conversation. In addition, learning about how the student works and their learning style / preferences are key. Secondly, I typically will assess the students' stregnths and weaknesses in the subject area they are struggling in. From there, I will come up with a plan to meet that students' needs and goals.
