About Bebheann

I am a college graduate who has recently returned from teaching English in Beijing, China. Though a recent college graduate, I gained both volunteer and professional teaching experience throughout my college career both in the US and around the world. In the US, I was a tutor for high school aged students learning English (2015-2016), as well as a summer camp counselor (2016), in which I worked with both native English speaking and native Chinese speaking campers.. During a study abroad in Akita, Japan (2017), I worked as a part-time assistant EFL teacher for pre-school and kindergarten aged students. I have recently returned to Texas from Beijing(2018-2019), where I taught several EFL classes for students ranged age 2-9 years of age at a variety of English proficiency levels.

I am a certified teacher licensed for Grades 1-6 general education through the Illinois State Board of Education. Additionally, I am am a certified EFL teacher through a 168-hour TEFL certification through The Tefl Academy.

In my ESL and EFL teaching, my goal is to make interdisciplinary, authentic lessons that help students learn not only the grammar rules and meanings of vocabulary, but how to apply what they learn in the real world.

In my general tutoring, I work with my students to make a tutoring plan that is best for them, tailoring how I teach and practice learning content so that students are able to learn in the best possible way for them.

I love seeing things click in my students' minds. As both a teacher and a learner, my favorite feeling is when something that has been frustratingly incomprehensible finally makes sense!

I have always been active in tutoring, and majored in education during college.

In December of 2018, I received a Bachelor of Arts Summa cum laude in Elementary Education. During my studies, I also obtained my teaching license through the Illinois State Board of Education.

While living and teaching in China, I took an online 168-hour TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification course through The TEFL academy. I am currently studying an additional 60-hour course on 1-1 and online tutoring to keep myself up to date on the newest teaching methods!

About the lesson

For the first meeting, I prefer to focus on getting to know my student. We'll talk about what they want to get out of tutoring, what they feel they are strong and weak at, and if they have any prefered studying or learning methods. From here, I like to get to know the students' likes and dislikes outside of an academic setting, using the information to keep lessons engaging and relevant for my student.

I have worked with a wide variety of students. During my first years of my undergraduate degree, I volunteered in both an elementary school (after-school program) setting, in addition to the local high school (in-school tutoring for EFL students).

During a study abroad in Japan during 2017, I volunteered as a conversational English tutor for fellow students at my university. Additionally, I worked part-time as an assistant English teacher at a handful of english-language schools. In this setting, I worked with Japanese children primarily aged 3-8.

Over the course of 2018, I completed practicum and student teaching in a first grade general education classroom. During this time, I worked with students aged 6-7 with a wide-range of ability levels. I also worked with students in Title I reading programs, accelerated level students, and students with IEPs to ensure the best learning environment for my students.

From Dec. 2018- Aug. 2019, I worked as an English teacher in Beijing, China. During this time, I taught small group and 1-1 English language lessons. My students ranged from 2 - 12 years old depending on which class I was teaching at the time.

Details

For a 1-1 tutoring session, my rate is $12 and hour. I increase my rate by $6 per additional student, so for 2 students, the rate would be $18/hour.
