About Heidi

I taught university students in China for a couple of years and LOVED it. I've traveled the world, and now I'm a mom who homeschools four little ones. I love hitting the library with them and reading aloud. We don't own a TV so we have lots of time to read!

I love to help students grow in their love of learning. I've helped friends edit their grad school papers, taught ESL to both immigrants and English majors, and teach my own little ones handwriting and many other skills. Let's chat and see if I'd be a good fit for you or your family.

After college, I taught music to children who were preparing to play the historic pipe organs in their villages in Mexico. Then I lived and taught in China, and enjoyed the enthusiasm and dedication of the university students in my classes. Next I taught and facilitated ESL classes and discussion groups. Now, I teach my own children (homeschool), who are kinder and elementary school age.

About the lesson

I'd like to meet with you or talk with you before we begin to see if we are a good fit for each other. We can do this by email or text, but phone or in-person are best.

I have worked with children, teens, university students, post-doctoral scholars, and recent immigrants.

Find someone who you can be real with, so you're not feeling nervous while you are learning. Find someone of whom you will feel comfortable asking questions.

I recently went to a family reunion, and directed a play with my children and my nieces and nephews, using "Stone Soup," a children's book, as the script. We only had half an hour to prepare. The kids all grabbed costumes out of the dress-up box, and added in their own ideas. Great Grandma really enjoyed the production!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What specifically do I need a tutor to help with that I find challenging to practice/learn on my own?

- Do I need more knowledge, more encouragement, or both?

- Do I need to "learn how to learn" this subject, and if so, how many sessions do I think I need to do that?

- What are my expectations for myself and for my tutor?

- Am I open to my tutor bringing in her own suggestions for curriculum? Do I already have my own?

I charge $40/hr for online tutoring, and $45 for in-person. Students can sign up by the month, for once or twice per week.
