About Mark Cole

I am a Junior at Baylor University as a University Scholar pursuing a triple major in Great Texts/Philosophy, Classics, and Anthropology. I am highly diligent, passionate, and capable, and I am looking to enrich the academic lives of younger students the way mine has been in college before they get to college. I hope to do this through clear instruction focused on classic principles of logic, argument, and rhetoric. I will show my students not just how to write a particular essay or do a particular assignment well, but how to think well, in order that all their work might be improved.

I have worked with students in a variety of capacities, as a youth minister, as a teacher of music and drama, as well as a chess coach and speech and debate coach. I currently teach drama to middle schoolers every week at a Jubilee Theatre with Mission Waco.

I currently maintain a 3.94 GPA, have been on the dean's list every semester, am apart of several honors societies, as well as receiving an award for outstanding undergraduate research.

I am apart of one of the most prestigious programs at Baylor University, The University Scholars Program. I am currently writing a thesis as well as completing an extensive reading list in addition to my various other classwork.

I have done extensive work in Greek and Latin, even working on a unique project with a professor preparing a text for publication.

I have written scores of essays between classes and applications for scholarships and various programs.

About the lesson

I want to get to know my students, what stage they are at, and how they think. Then I start to work through their assignments with them, focusing on how to think through the problems they are having better. The key is not to make them better at school, but to make them better thinkers. Thinking better makes for a better person as well as a better student.
