About Hertha

One day I will open up a TESOL school.

My goal is to use a child's second language skills to improve their English. Create lessons and stories that are relatable to them and build on it.

I've been a tutor all four years of high school. I continued tutoring for the next two years in community college. I finally started teaching elementary school in 2012.

I graduated with my AA in Liberal Arts in 2010 from ASCC, studied English from UH-Manoa and transferred my credits to ASCC and received my BA.

I am currently working on a creative writing group on Facebook for Asians and Pacific Islanders in Washington State.

The satisfaction that comes from seeing a child learn something new that they've never been able to do before. I believe educators are miracle workers. Every other job on the planet follows a pattern. Educating young minds requires change all the time because everyone has a different learning style. I love what I do because of that reason.

About the lesson

I like to break the ice with my new student by talking about their top five choices in a category, such as music or sports. I gradually incorporate one of those things into the first lesson. I also provide two assessments based on student grade level and content area. Sometimes using an online link or simply by asking subject related questions.
