*I have always been passionate about learning, which is demonstrated through the achievement of becoming #1 in my graduating class. However, I didn't reach my goals by myself. Along the path I had my parents who never gave up on amazing teachers, awesome friends, and me.
*Making great decisions and setting goals is key to success. I would help students achieve their goals in a process:
1) Looking at the student as a whole. Having a conference with the parents, teachers, and students. Getting multiple perspectives as to what are areas of strength and weakness.
2) Collecting samples of current work (data), so we can compare to later work. This way you can see the growth that is bound to happen!
3) Setting up a work area that is clean and clutter free. Students need to have an area to work that does not have distractions. This area should also have everything the student needs to do their work everyday to be successful.
4) Do backward planning to determine due dates for major projects and when to accomplish different assignments.
5) Show student how to put goals on a calendar and make a checklist of accomplishments.
6) Progress monitor work (data) and have a team meeting to reflect on growth. Determine and set future goals to attain.
7) Throughout the tutoring process, based on the goals of the student, there will be daily goals (at grade level) such as: narrative voice, dialogue, introduction, conclusion, summarization, synonyms for said, persuasive essay prompts, etc....
8) Furthermore, as State Testing (SBAC and ELPAC) approaches, tutoring will laser in on test strategies and how prepare your student to answer the question and utilize the rubric.
9) Additionally, students will be able to email me throughout the week if they have last minute questions about papers they need help on before they turn work in to their teachers.
10) Finally, with teamwork you can make a dream work! It does takes steps and habits of mind, but with time and dedication you can accomplish anything. Having a great support system, such as parents, great teachers, supportive friends, and a tutor will help prepare students for a successful future.
