About Erin

I am a recent graduate of the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a minor in French. During my time at William & Mary, I studied primarily British Literature, though I also have a strong grasp on linguistics and syntax, and I graduated from the program with honors.

As a French speaker, I am at the advanced / proficient level, and have spent time studying French language and culture in Paris. I have a strong grasp on French grammatical rules, an advanced vocabulary, and a passion for French culture.

I have always been very passionate about languages, and the ways in which we use them to communicate with the rest of the world. I greatly enjoy being able to share this passion and excitement with my students.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in French from the College of William & Mary.

About the lesson

For French students, I typically begin by assessing the fluency level of a new student, and speaking with them to determine any particular aspects of the language they would most like to work on. This can range from grammatical rules to vocabulary to practicing their accent. From there, I will gather resources and exercises to help them, and go over these resources with them. I often attempt to pull examples of grammatical rules from film clips and excerpts from literature.

For English students, I first need to know what the goals of the student are. Is it an essay that needs editing, a book you're having a hard time analyzing, or do you just need help studying for the SATs? From there, I can do my own work before our in-person meeting, so that I can have some notes on the essay, read the book, or simply pull together some practice problems.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I recommend thinking about which areas of your study you most need help with. If I know that, I can pull resources like exercises, films, poems, and excerpts of literature to best help you.
