The first session is dedicated to getting to know the student and to decide on desired learning outcomes. I introduce them to the tutoring tools we will use for our sessions and I document our plan.
I would suggest asking to meet (virtual or phone call) with the tutor you are considering to hire. It is important that you are able to connect with and build a good working relationship with your tutor.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would consider the things that you feel most anxious about as a student. If you could be better at one thing in school, what would it be?
Finally, think about how you learn best and try to describe that. What do you want your teacher to know about you as a learner?
