About Samantha

I am currently an elementary school teacher, working at a small private school in Roseville and I am looking to expand my work day with after school tutoring sessions. Teaching is not only my job, but my passion. I take pride in helping students to love learning as much as I do!

I have taught in all elementary grades during my years as a substitute teacher. I am currently teaching third grade to two 6 student classes.

My teaching strengths are in reading and writing, but math, science, and social studies are other subjects I feel confident tutoring.

Comfortable with in-person or online sessions.

Most of my available hours are after school, specific hours can be found below.

I am available:

After 5:30pm M-Th

After 3:30pm F

Anytime S&S

I have never had a job that didn't involve children, starting as a babysitter, nannying through college, substituting, facilitating behavioral therapy, and currently teaching 3rd grade.

I went into college unsure if my direction, but in my second semester, I sat in the middle of my first child development course and cried in relief to feel a sense of purpose in the emotional and academic development of children.

I have a BA in child development (school age concentration) from San Francisco State, and attended Brandman University for my multiple-subject teaching credential program.

I have worked in many education-based positions:

substitute teacher (3 years)

ABA therapist (2 1/2 years)

elemntary school teacher (2 years)

Working with a new student involves getting to know each other. Conversation creates comfortability. Knowing the personality of a student helps in creating lessons that relate to the student, their style of learning, and their interests.
It is important to see the materials and talk about the areas that challenge students most.

I have substituted in all elementary school grades and currently work at a small religious school as a third grade teacher.

I have also worked in special education as a behavioral therapist to children with Autism

Look for the teacher that lights up and gets excited when they talk about their favorite subject. The best teachers love what they teach and it shows.

As many parents and teachers are aware, handwriting is a struggle for many students.

Engaging students in handwriting development proves to be an even bigger struggle.

But this last year, I was candid with my 2nd grade class about a letter I had written beautifully on the board.

One single letter.

The letter "S."

the letter "S" is the first letter of my name and commonly used to spell words.

I wrote a nearly perfect "S" on the board. Taking a step back to admire my own work I began asking my class, "Wow! Have you ever written a perfect letter and just thought, 'Wow, that's a beautiful letter?' "S" is the first letter of my name and I can never make it quite right, but this is a beautiful "S."

For the next three weeks, students would continually show me the perfect letters they wrote during class. Proud of their own work.

And I am happy to say, their handwriting has only gotten better as we've entered our current year together.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself what it is that takes the fun out of your learning.

What is it that's holding you back, and what are you willing to try to achieve your best work?

Are you willing to put in the effort?
Are you willing to put in the time?

And most importantly, can you handle the emotions that may come when you don't meet your goals with ease?
