About Gareth
Growing up in Hong Kong, I am no stranger to tutoring sessions, and I understand the frustration and uneasiness of having a stranger teaching you things you do not understand. So, I aim to be a tutor and a friend children can trust and open up to. Because I believe it is essential to build a trusting relationship when it comes to education. With trust, my words will appeal to be more convincing and comprehensive so that children will listen to me attentively and willingly. I am energetic, enthusiastic, a fast learner, and a team player. But, more importantly, I am very friendly and patient toward children. I know when to give children space and time to think whenever they are frustrated and how to comfort and console them with words of encouragement and a positive attitude. In addition, I understand how to motivate students to learn by creating games that stimulate thoughts and reward them with treats because I believe in positive reinforcement, not punishment.

I am a UBC graduate who majored in English literature with a minor in philosophy. As an English Major, I learned how to do close readings, write summaries, critical responses, passage analyses, and write creatively/academically. As a philosophy minor, I learned how to enhance my critical thinking skills and logic, interpret scholarly articles, and write arguments against or supporting ideals derived from historical and philosophical figures. As a super prof tutor for two years, I know how to adapt to different students' needs by understanding their motivations, strengths, weaknesses, and interests.
What I can help with:
-Tailored syllabus for different needs
-Close reading/ analysis/ summaries/ arguments
-Homework/ projects help
-A reading buddy
-School materials preview and review
-Test and exam prep

Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Gareth.
Perfect! Gareth is a great English tutor who helped me improve my proofreading skills. He taught me useful techniques and strategies to catch mistakes and improve my writing. His clear and supportive teaching style made learning easy and effective. I now feel more confident editing my own work. I highly recommend Gareth for both high school and university students.
Perfect! Gareth is a great tutor. He shows his honest interest in understanding my son’s needs and his progress. And he creates a comfortable environment and encourages my son who is shy and not confident to speak more in a descriptive way, which promotes learning during the sessions. I would definitely recommend.

Gareth worked on improving my son’s close reading. My son tells me that it makes a lot more sense now. He both helped with homework assignments as well as came up with his own program reviewing the novel 1984.
Garreth is reliable and works very well with kids. He is patient and knows just how hard to push. My son’s math has improved with his help.

He is thoughtful, patient and really caring!
He has planned the whole term of work and shared it with my wife and I and asked for feedback and adjusted accordingly to our expectations
He makes the classes fun for our grade fourth daughter - and she knows even likes math!
I would highly recommend Gareth to anybody!
Gareth is super friendly, polite and patient. My son really liked him as a tutor, as he would find new and fun things to challenge him. I also know Gareth would give him stickers or stationary as encouragement! I highly recommend Gareth to you! !
