About Charlie

I grew up working for my mom and her business( Burke Horse & Hound). I learned so much from her and all that she did. I loved the connections, the changes, the confidence, the encouragment, and the love she had for her job. I grew up riding here in the states as well as in Ireland( where advanced summer camps took place and my dad is from). I feel this has given me a well rounded education. I have done almost all things horse too, English, Western, gyhmkana playdays, parades, carriage driving, vaulting, dressage, three-day eventing, bareback, as well as general horsemanship handling. I pride myself on truly listening to both the horse and rider so the goals to be accomplished are understood and desired by all.

Truthfully everything. I love seeing a kids smile the first time they trot. The tears of frustration that later turn into tears of triumph and happiness. Helping a student create a true partnership and learning teamwork. Working through a challenge to it later becoming the students favortie thing to do. Watching a parent be so nervous for their kids first horseshow. I love it all. But sharing my love for horses with others is definately the cherry on top.

I followed in the footsteps of my mom, Bette Burke, who founded Burke Horse and Hound in 1988. I grew up as part of her team and worked in her summer camps. I found such a joy and learned so much that I continued on the same path.

I am a CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) certified instructor. I have had formal training on top of my experiences as an instructor.

I like getting to know the student. What their goals are, what they have worked on, what they enjoy etc. Then I can base a lesson plan off of the individual.

I have worked with tiny tots who have never touched a horse before, to returning adults who want to gain confidence in the saddle, to eventers working up the levels, to western gymkhana students and a bit of everything in between.
