About Ken

I have been teaching riding since I was 16. I have had much experiencetraining under international and Olympic riders, and learned much horsemanship in my quest to make it to the 3 day equestrian team, and at 22 or so I switched my goals to Grand Prix Show Jumping. Learning much of the equitation/show hunter business along the way.

Two of my former show jumping students later rode multiple times for their respective countries in the olympics and world championships.

I enjoy all levels, and have trained scads of horses over their first jumps, riders too. Hundreds of people to post, along the way.

My own competitive success is not huge, won and placed in many horse trials from Preliminary on down, never won a big grand Prix, but placed in 7or 8, qualifying in 1991 to try out for pan American games that year. The horse and I were going well, might have been interesting.

While I can help you with all kinds of horses, I do specialize in helping people deal with their sensitive, often hot blooded horses.

I have helped hundreds of race horses become sport horses, many at upper levels.

I'll work on this some more....not used to writing about me.

Dressagewise, I grew up from 12-17 under the direct tutelage of Jessica Newberry Ransenhousen, a three time Olympic US Dressage team member, and her older students.

This worked out amazingly, as George Morris sent a few of his Equitation champions, as resident students, there to learn more about dressage.

Very lucky years for me.

I like to teach, I like to train the rider on their horse, if appropriate, and desired, I'll ride some, but I really look to teach people, so they stay in the saddle.

Trained under a three time Olympic dressage rider much of my early years, other Olympic riders, trainers, etc

I ask them to mount and warm up their usual way, and watch. I speak up, ask a few questions....

this process can vary greatly, from.helping a rider of less than a year experience, to riders with 30 or so years experience at upper levels.

One minute under saddle could prompt me to start, or with some advanced jumping riders, let them warm up over the jump, tell me when to raise it.

Then we chat, and discuss, and get to work.

I never degrade or humiliate....and I don't spend the time trying to sell you a new horse. :- )
