About Mishti

I'm an astrophysics student at UC Berkeley-- it wasn't long ago that I was getting tutoring in high school (and still need help now sometimes!). I know how to explain math to students to cater to their style of learning since I'm still in that position myself. I like to challenge them and myself to think about these ideas in different ways.

I really love tutoring in math (since I was in high school) because there are so many beautiful concepts that can describe the real world. I love showing students why math matters and how it affects their real life: it becomes all the more interesting! It's so fulfilling to see these ideas click in their minds.

Once I realized my younger sister was struggling in her math class and needed my help, I realized many of her classmates and those in the grades above her sometimes don't get the chance to fully understand a topic. Unfortunately, there were substantial budget cuts in my high school district, causing many class sizes to approach 30 or 40 students. Many find it difficult to learn in such a large group setting, and I wanted to help wherever I could.

I'm an astrophysics student at UC Berkeley-- I have both received and given tutoring in the past for Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I also received 5s on both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC exams.

About the lesson

First, I would like to take a look at their textbook and syllabus so I can write up lesson plans from their curriculum each week. I succeeded when my tutor and I would go over the units before my class did, so when the teacher would teach it in school, it was a second chance to grasp the subject. I want my students to do well, and this method has worked wonderfully for the students I have taught already.

I have mostly worked with algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus students. In addition, some of my students are athletes, so I understand and am flexible to work around any changing schedules!

I would recommend selecting someone who you are comfortable learning from, and most importantly, comfortable asking questions to. There's nothing worse than hiring extra help, but still not feeling prepared in class.
