About Nicholas

Hello! My name is Nicholas Nguyen and I am currently an intended physics major at UC Berkeley. Having grown up with three younger siblings, I am well-practiced in helping guide children and teenagers through difficult concepts that they might struggle to understand in class.

Some of the services that I offer include:

Effectively break down challenging classroom concepts into more thoughtful and manageable components

Offer tailored resources and advice on study habits and test-taking strategies

Provide a step-by-step walkthrough of math assignments

Work through numerous subjects of varying degrees of difficulty

Some relevant achievements of mine include:

Scoring a 5 in Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, and Physics 1

Scoring an 800/800 on the SAT Math section

Winning multiple medals in competitive Science Olympiad math-related events, such as Astronomy and Geologic Mapping

Earning a gold medal in the AMC 8

Receiving a school award for distinguished abilities in math

In addition, I have an extensive background in technology and virtual tutoring.

Math in particular has always been an extremely fascinating subject to me, completely unlike any other subject in school due to its focus on problem solving. However, I've met countless people who view math as a daunting subject in school, being difficult to understand compared to other classes. For me, the joy of tutoring and teaching comes from being able to allieviate this stress, and ensuring that students have a strong foundation so that they can handle challenging classes on their own in the future.

In addition to the accolades mentioned above, I have experience leading and training younger peers and children through my time as an Eagle Scout and troop leader of my Boy Scout troop. I have also worked with a Vietnamese language school as a teacher assistant for over 200 hours helping write tests and teach classes of children.

About the lesson

When I first meet with a new student, I aim to get to know their general personality and approach to learning. Each student learns best differently, and I think it is important to first familiarize ourselves with each other before getting into actual tutoring.

The following step is making sure the student (or parent) and I are on the same page as to what services they are looking for from our sessions.

Details

My pricing system depends on both the level of math involved in the coursework, as well as the amount of time needed to prepare material outside of standard sessions.

To that end, tutoring all math courses below precalculus costs a base price of $25 an hour, while higher levels of math cost $40 an hour.

Additionally,

+$20/hour for children under 10

+$5-10/hour for providing tailored study guides and quizzes alongside tutoring

The first session is $10/hour regardless of the normal pricing.
