About Aaron

I am a Physics major at Stanford University who loves to see students succeed in math, physics, and computer science. I've been tutoring locally and online since 2014.

I love it when students finally "get it" and begin to believe in their ability to succeed. I strongly believe that anyone can learn math and science when it is presented the right way. Being in a STEM field myself, I had to struggle with the same concepts, so I present them in simple ways that relate to real life and students' intuitions.

For example, math can be a very visual subject, but it's often not taught that way. Something that is obscure from equations can become clear and memorable when you look at a graph. Likewise, science can seem disconnected from real life... until you realize how many of our everyday experiences can be modeled and explained by science.

I took a gap year between high school and college, and started a local tutoring business to help students and make a bit of money. It turned out to be pretty successful, but even more than making money, I enjoyed learning about my clients as people and seeing them succeed in school where they previously didn't believe they could!

I'm a Physics major at Stanford University. I work with math, physics, and computer science every day, and it will be my future career.

About the lesson

I do a free intake phone call to understand the student's goals and needs. Then we set up an initial tutoring session, usually over Zoom. After the first session, I have a better sense of how often we should meet, and we set up future appointments.

During my gap year, I mostly tutored junior high and high school students in math, science, and English. I have tutored students of all ages (middle school, high school, college, adult) in math, science, and computer science.

Look for someone who can explain concepts in a way that makes sense to you. There's always a way to "make it make sense."

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
While working on a problem, where exactly do you get stuck? Is it a reluctance to even start? Is it on a certain part of the problem? Does it depend on a more basic skill that you never learned?

After a tutoring session, how much time are you willing to put into practicing new skills? Are you willing to do practice problems in addition to assigned homework? Do you care most about learning the material, or making the grade?
