About Jacqi

I have a wide range of education experience from teaching special needs students how to swim to running summer camp classrooms at the Denver Zoo to taking education to schools all over Washington with the Pacific Science Center. I do not have a lot of direct tutuoring experience but I am a fast learner and am excited to learn along side you or your child.

I've been working with kids in various capacities since the age of 14. I have always loved working with kids of all ages and helping them spark a passion for learning. Tutoring is a great way for me to spread my knowldge, help kids learn, and teach them how to love learning. The best part of tutoring is how much I learn from the students I have the privledge of teaching.

I started as a volunteer with Special Olympics, teaching special needs kids how to swim and running trialthanlons with them. From there, I volunteered at the Denver Zoo as an assitant sumer camp instructor, eventually becoming a K-1 instuctor myself. During high school, I tutuored math and frech throughout my junior and senior year. In college, I was an Orientation Leader and taught UNIV 101 to incoming freshmen to help orient them to a whole new world. I am currently an educator at the Pacific Science Center, taking lessons to schools all over Washington and educating kids from Kindergarten through High School.

I received my B.S. in Wildlife Science, focusing on research and field work in December 2019.

When working with a new student, I begin by getting to know them and understanding what they think works best for them when learning. It's important to know what their strengths and weaknesses are so that when we are learning together I cater it towards their strengths. I also work on making their weaknesses strengths so that they are more equipt for future challenges. Tutoring isn't just about getting a better grade, it is about becoming a better learner so that future challenges are easier to overcome.

The bulk of my education expereince is with students grades K-5th. When tuturing in high school and college, I worked with only Freshmen. I do have expereince with special needs students, including extra experience with students on the Autism/Asperger spectrum. However, I do not have any offical training or certifications for teaching special needs children.

I would look for someone that fits your learning style and has experience in various subjects that you think will help you learn. I personally prefer working with teachers who are well rounded and flexible which is why I try to be like that. Others may prefer someone who is focused and dedicated in a smaller circle of subjects.

Even thoughout this COVID-19 crisis, people are still finding ways to spread joy and love. My favorite thing that I've seen since the world shut down is people going out on their porches every night all over the world and singing and blasting their music on their balconies.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What are your top 3 strengths for learning?

- What are you biggest weaknesses (3) when it comes to learning?

- What are you hoping ot get our of tutoring OTHER than a better grade?

- Can you identify specifically what you need help with or is it more general?

Ex: I am struggling specifically with formatting my essays

versus

Ex: I am struggling in general with writting essays.
