We will talk about what topic or subject they need help with, what they do or don't understand about it. After I'll ask them if they have specific problems they want to work out and work from there. If not I'll make my own.
You have to find someone who can explain things to you in a way that you will understand. Some people, even the really smart ones, don't have that skill. So look for someone who is articulate and personable.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They can ask any question they want so long as its thoughtful. What's important is that they know what they need help with.

Karen was a great tutor! I was having a lot of trouble with precalculus homework but he was really patient with me. He explained throughly and clearly how to get through the confusion I was having.
