Dr. Briggs was one of the best TA’s in the FSU College of Music. He always took the time to make sure that his students understood the material before moving on, and explained things very thoroughly. He really cares about his students, and goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone succeeds.

Dr.Briggs was one of the best TA’s in the college of music at FSU. He would always find different ways to help his students whether it be a different approach to a topic or office hours. In all honesty, he was one of the few teachers who took the time to teach the material rather than just assigning homework.

I took an Aural Skills class with Dr. Briggs and learned a lot from him! He was extremely knowledgeable about the subject area and was able to explain concepts in a variety of ways. He displayed respect and compassion for the students at all times and was always prepared to teach, and to help students in any way that he could. I would highly recommend working with Dr. Briggs!

Dr. Briggs is one of the most patient and caring people I have ever worked with. He is incredibly knowledgeable about everything theory and composition related, he is fantastic at finding how to get his point across, and he is always willing to lend a helping hand.

I studied under Mr. Briggs in college for a short time, and while I can honestly say that I didn’t particularly enjoy music theory in general, he taught and explained in such a way that I grasped even the concepts I hated and found enjoyment in the learning process. He pays attention and cares enough to make the extra effort needed to make sure that you are understanding correctly.

Dr.Briggs was always ensuring that you had all of your questions answered and understood. If something was at all confusing he would allow it to be redone and explained instead of just handing you a paper with markings on it or a aural test with a score. The semester as his student was the best one in all 4 semesters of that subject!

Dr. Briggs taught me upper division music theory and composition during my undergraduate degree and I really enjoyed his teaching. His explanations of new concepts were clear and easy to grasp, and he would often show us examples of the concepts in modern music which made it even more applicable. He gave great advice when working on my compositions and he helped to increase my confidence and expand my imagination in music composition. Thank you, Dr. Briggs!

I had Dr. Briggs for theory IV at FSU, and absolutely loved it! By far my favorite theory teacher. He made everything very clear and easy to understand, and always gave specific feedback. Dr. Briggs is a great teacher, and you will love the time you spend learning from him!

As I recall from Form and Analysis class at TCU with Dr. Briggs, is that he is enriched with deep knowledge over the topics he taught us each class about music theory. He can blend in smoothly to both high and low levels of the knowledge of the students and teach/guide us the content effectively. I remember he put us in groups of diverse knowledge which helps everyone in the group to learn. He also uses variety of music, eras, performance, composition, etc. that we can relate to and apply it to gain understanding the form and analysis. His approach of scaffolding method in teaching is one of the inspiration to me as an educator today.

Dr. Briggs is dedicated to making sure all of his students succeed. He has an individualized approach to teaching to assure all of his students understand complex material. Dr. Briggs has an extremely comprehensive understanding of all things Music Composition and Theory and was able to make me understand very difficult concepts that I never grasped in the past.

Dr. Briggs is incredible! He is very personable, I always felt comfortable coming to him with questions. He is very knowledgeable and makes the material engaging and easy to understand. I loved learning from him!

Dr. Briggs was great at explaining difficult concepts in a simple way so that all of the students were able to understand. Even if students needed a little more explanation, he would take time to explain it differently so that no student was left behind. I know for a fact he was the reason I was able to pass music theory 2 and 3 at Florida State University.

Mr. Briggs was my Music Theory IV teacher at Florida State. He goes the extra mile to help students conceptualize the abstract principles of modern/ atonal theory. He did a great job of stimulating class discussion and debate, making for an interesting and engaging lesson!
