About Joe

Hey! My name is Joe and I'm a professional photographer in the Phoenix area. I recently moved out here from Santa Barbara, California where I originally started my photography business. I've been practicing photography for 7 years and have been shooting professionally for 5 years. I have experience in just about any type of photography you can think of, but my business mainly revolves around covering weddings and events, which means a lot of portraits. I also have a huge passion for landscape and wildlife photography! I can offer expert guidance on everything photography related, from getting to know your camera and how to use it, to composition and lighting, and all the way through the post editing process. I have experience teaching at all skill levels, ages young and old. I'm knowledgeable, dependeable, and very patient! If you'd like to get started with sharpening your photography skills, I'd love to hear from you, no matter your experience level.

I've always loved photography, but it wasn't until I bought my first DSLR that I realized it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Nothing gets me more excited than things like getting a new lens, shooting at a new location, or simply getting a great shot! Photography has my heart, and I love being able share my passion with others. It doesn't matter what kind of camera or experience you have, if you have something you'd like to learn or improve on, I can help! I look forward to helping you take beautiful photos and share my knowledge of photography with you.

I have my AA degree in Photography and Film Production. I have worked in the industry for about 5 years with my own business. It's not only my career, but my hobby as well. It's a craft I take very seriously and have poured thousands of hours into.

I would recommend choosing a teacher who has a lot of experience in the type of photography you'd want to be shooting. While all of the basic principles are the same, the process changes with each subject. Pick what you'd like to learn (how to manually expose your camera, or how to compose a scene well for example) and try to get a firm grasp on those concepts before moving on. There's a lot to photography and it can seem overwhleming at first how much there is to learn, but if just take it at your own pace. You can't rush art, patience is key. The most important and helpful thing you can do is just pick up your camera and SHOOT!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First, I would decide what equipment you will be using. Figure out whether you'd like to shoot film or digital. Decide what kind of camera you will be using, and whether or not you need help using the camera or learning the manual functions. What would you like your subject to be? Are you interested in special types of photography (such as macro, astrophotography, product, etc.)? Are you interested in learning to edit your photos, and if so, what software would you be using? These are all things to consider and inform your potential teacher of to ensure the best match.
