About Michael

I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering with 12 years of hands-on experience in both design engineering and engineering management. In high school, I scored 5's on both AP Calculus and AP Physics, as well as completing the International Bacchalauretae curriculum for higher-level Physics and Math while receiving my IB Diploma. This combination of experience and abliity allows me to help students understand not only the concepts they are learning, but also the importance of the applications of those concepts in the real world. This, along with my background in management, means that I excel at encouraging and helping others to grow and learn new and difficult skills that will help them in any future endeavors.

I enjoy the moment when a student goes from "I just don't understand" to "AHA, I got it!". I believe that different students can learn the same subject in a variety of ways, and there is not necessarily one "right" way to approach a problem. It is about the overall understanding of the concept and the ability to take that understanding and apply it and continue to build on it throughout the curriculum. It is sometimes not that a student in unable to get a new concept as it is that they may not have fully grasped all of the previous concepts on which it was built. I make sure to work on not just the next chapter or problem, but to ensure that the foundation is strong so as a student builds knowledge, they also build confidence in their abilities going forward.
