There are 3 things one wants in a voice teacher: experience with helping singers sing better (which includes having a vision of what the student can sound like), knowledge about repertoire and knowledge about languages. Katherine Keyes has never given up on me. She is always searching out new ways to present solutions to vocal technique issues. She has helped sopranos who have lost their high C’s to sing them again. She teaches a method of practicing coloratura runs that ensures the precise and musical performance of them. Katherine wants the singer to release their individual sound, whether the singer’s voice is bright or dark. To that end, she teaches balanced, centered resonance. She is knowledgeable (and continues to learn) about repertoire, including opera, art song and musical theatre. She has an extensive art song score collection, including out of print works, and has been able to suggest art song repertoire to me. She continues to study languages, including Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian as well as German, French and Italian. I highly recommend studying with Katherine Keyes.

I have studied with Katherine Keyes for the last four years. She is a wonderful teacher. She is very knowledgeable, supportive, patient and meticulous in helping me to continuously improve my vocal technique. I love that she incorporates Alexander Technique into my voice lesson. It is so helpful and carries over into my performing as well.

I have studied both voice and Alexander Technique with Kathy Keyes of The Metamorphosis Studio. I can enthusiastically recommend her as a teacher in both disciplines but I will focus on her voice teaching. Kathy predominantly teaches classical voice but as I have segued from classical to musical theatre and cabaret, she has helped me find healthy vocal techniques in all genres. I have studied with many teachers, some very well-known, and I have never met anyone who had such knowledge of the voice and an ability to patiently work to correct vocal issues (of which I came to her with many). I have found an ease in vocal production that I did not think possible. I have worked on Broadway, in national tours, with opera companies and in cabaret and Kathy has been there through it all!!!!
