About Miho

Professional Japanese Instruction: Science-Based Learning with Psychological Support

I am a native Japanese professional educator with a Master of Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland and over 1,300 hours of specialized experience. My unique approach is one of the few in Brisbane that integrates advanced language acquisition theories with professional therapeutic support.

Why Choose a Specialist?
Language learning is as much about emotional well-being as it is about grammar. As a qualified therapist, I specialise in identifying and reducing "language anxiety"—the invisible barrier that often hinders progress. By creating a psychologically safe environment, I empower students to overcome their fear of mistakes, leading to significantly faster and more natural acquisition.

The "Game Changer" Experience: Transforming Lives through Language
My mission is to be more than just a teacher; I aim to be a catalyst for personal growth. A defining moment in my career was working with a homeschooled student struggling with severe anxiety. By rebuilding their confidence alongside their language skills, they ultimately achieved the milestone of studying in Tokyo. Their parents described this transformation as a "Game Changer"—realizing they had found not just a tutor, but a partner in their child's holistic development.

Experience & Expertise:
︎Academic Excellence: Master of Applied Linguistics (UQ), providing evidence-based methods that explain the "why" behind the language.
︎International Pedagogy: Combined experience from Japan and a prestigious independent girls' school in South Brisbane. I have a deep understanding of the high academic standards of the local QLD curriculum.
︎Holistic Guidance: I pride myself on building strong, trusting relationships with both students and parents. Many of my students have stayed with me for over six years, a testament to the enduring success of this supportive approach.

By removing anxiety and applying proven linguistic strategies, I transform the challenge of Japanese into a rewarding success story. Whether you are aiming for ATAR excellence or personal fluency, I provide the professional guidance you need to succeed.

About the lesson

Personalized Learning Designed for Your Success

Your lessons are fully customized, integrating your current skill level with your unique goals. Beyond standard practice, I incorporate special interest topics and evidence-based methods from my background in Applied Linguistics to accelerate your fluency. As a qualified therapist, I also specialize in reducing "Language Anxiety" (the stress of making mistakes), creating a confident and safe environment where you can truly thrive.

What You Can Expect:
- Comprehensive Support: I provide curated textbooks and original learning materials tailored to your needs.
-Continuous Progress: After each session, you will receive personalized lesson notes to reinforce your learning and track your growth.

Diverse Goals, Real Results
I support a vibrant community of learners with diverse dreams and have a proven track record of success:
- Executive & Business Coaching: I have coached high-level professionals, including a CFO of a major corporation, for annual business meetings in Japan. We focus on high-stakes communication and formal greetings to ensure a confident, professional presence.
- Special Cultural Milestones: I am currently helping a student prepare for their traditional wedding ceremony at a Japanese shrine! I am deeply committed to making these personal dreams a reality.
- Specialized ATAR & Exam Prep: Structured, high-stakes preparation for senior students navigating the QLD Senior Curriculum (Year 11 & 12 / ATAR Japanese), focusing on flawless essay structure, listening comprehension, and exam-room confidence. I also support all levels of JLPT (N5-N1).
- Academic & Long-term Goals: Individualized coaching for younger school students (Year 7-10) preparing for senior pathways, or those planning to study or live in Japan.

Beyond the Screen: Building Real Connections
To me, teaching is about building a meaningful partnership. During my regular visits to Brisbane, I prioritize meeting my students in person. These face-to-face moments are incredibly precious, as they deepen our trust and provide a powerful boost of motivation that carries back into our online sessions. My goal is to be more than just a tutor; I am your dedicated partner in building a lifelong connection with Japan.

I am deeply passionate about my students' journeys. Your success and joy in discovering Japan are what drive me to create the best possible learning experience for you.

Miho's response
Raiden is very keen on learning Japanese and is learning spontaneously. This is one of the important things to learn something new, I believe. So, I am trying to prepare some materials to encourage Raiden's motivation. I enjoy teaching every week, and every time I am impressed at Raiden's effort.
