About Murray
My approach is supportive, encouraging, and individualized. I help students understand what their teachers are looking for, organize their ideas clearly, develop stronger arguments, and improve grammar and style without losing their own voice.
I enjoy working with secondary students, adult learners, and newcomers to Canada who are developing their English writing skills. Whether you need help preparing an essay, understanding a literary work, improving your writing, or building confidence, I will work with you at your own pace and help you achieve your goals.

I am an experienced and highly qualified professional educator with many years of teaching in British Columbia. During my career I taught students from the primary grades through university, and in my final years I worked as a District Literacy Support Teacher, helping classroom teachers strengthen reading and writing instruction. I was seconded to Simon Fraser University in the Professional Development Program, mentoring student teachers as they prepared for a career in education.
I hold a Master’s degree in English Literature and have a passion for helping students become confident, effective writers. I specialize in BC English Language Arts, particularly Composition 11, essay writing, literary analysis, and academic writing.
