About Ellen
I am a travel enthusiast and love learning all about the world, and that started with a discovery of books and the new world's and peopleyou can explore within them.
English and analytical writing can seem a very daunting task, after all, you don't have a clear tickbox of what's right and what's wrong, and you're constantly bombarded with other people's opinions.
Once you see past this overwhelm, it can be one of the most interesting and fulfilling subjects to divulge in, and I'd love to help students get over the fear of 'getting it wrong', and work on their ability to form well evidenced, eloquently presented opinions.
Whether you're just trying to get through your next exam, or really want to learn to love English, we can work together to make that happen!
I was once sat in an English class with no clue what analysis even meant, and I now have a first class degree in it from one of the best Universities in the country - if I can do it, so can you! So let's make that happen together

Every student is different, so I work with students (and parents) to devise learning plans that best suit the learning objectives and busy lifestyles or every tutee.
I recommend session formats for the following levels:
Primary Age: 45 mins - 1 hour: Warm Up Activity, Key skill development session, Skill Application, Fun wind-down activity
Secondary/ GCSE: 1 hour - 1 hour 15: Key skill focus, analysis of example work, development of example work, exam question focus and review, key takeaways review and onward work planning
A Level/ University: Topic Discussion/ debate, Idea development practice, Adding in context (exam/ essay questions style), review and feedback
I have worked both in a 1:1 setting and classroom setting with students for 5 years, and love seeing the development and confidence that my students come away with after just a few weeks of targeted practice. The aim of every session is to highlight their strengths, and to come up with a clear and targeted approach to develop their weaknesses.
I would love to discuss working together and helping develop your skills across all areas of English, Writing technique and Analysis!
