About Maya

I have always been motivated and passionate about words and their power. From an avid reading rowing up, to an aspiring writer and theatre -maker and finding my confidence and self- esteem through acting, I thrive in environments that evoke the power of words in both spoken and written form.
I also grew up by the sea and so have a love for the ocean and surfing. I am inspired by nature and spending time in it. I find calm and peace through regular yoga and meditation sessions. I love learning new things, surrounding myself in new environments and cultures and therefore travelling and living abroad have been a big part of my life since graduating.

All of this to say, I love the subjects I teach and am inspired to connect with people from around the world in inspiring ways.

About the lesson

After living and working in South East Asia for the past 18 months I have extensive international experience in teaching English as a foreign language. I have helped support a range of students in their English language journey from primary and secondary level and adult learners. I can adapt my lessons to individual learners needs and create a friendly and safe environment to make mistakes, learn and have fun doing so.

I am also confident in teaching English literature for secondary school students, helping them prepare and build confidence for their exams and getting into university. I am particularly experienced in the UK exam based system of supporting students with their GCSE studies.

Due to my degree and passion for the subject, I have a love for teaching drama and theatre. I have been involved in curating introductory theatre workshops for children and teenagers, presenting the power of story telling through physicality, voice and character. My lessons in this field build confidence, speech skills and enhance creativity and a sense of voice.

My combined experience, qualifications and love of words and language means my lessons are fun, vibrant and adapted to what you are looking for.
