About Davin

I am a First-Class LLB (Hons) (Scots Law) graduate with a GPA of 4.2/4.5. During my LLB I also received the Thorntons Law Prize for the highest grade in Law of Property. I spent a semester studying at EBS Universität in Germany, achieving an average grade of 90%. I am currently completing the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow, ahead of starting my training contract with a law firm in Edinburgh in July 2027.

I have gained practical legal experience at leading law firms, including White & Case, Addleshaw Goddard and CMS, working across areas such as commercial litigation, international arbitration and employment law. I have extensive competitive mooting experience, including recently winning a national mooting competition. I also co-host discussions for the International Maritime Law Students' Association, helping undergraduate and postgraduate students explore and understand complex maritime law issues.

Having recently completed my own undergraduate studies, I understand the challenges law students face and hope to share the knowledge, techniques and experience that helped me succeed academically.

About the lesson

I believe the best way to understand law is to actively engage with it, rather than simply memorise legal principles.

My teaching approach is inspired by my semester at EBS Universität in Germany, where I experienced highly interactive teaching from leading European academics. I was particularly impressed by how lessons encouraged critical thinking, practical application and discussion, an approach I aim to bring to my own tutoring.

My lessons generally follow three stages:

- Explanation: Breaking down legal principles and cases into clear, manageable concepts.
- Application: Working through practical case studies or problem questions based on what we've covered.
- Discussion: Exploring your reasoning, considering alternative arguments and developing your critical thinking.

Every student learns differently, so our first lesson will help establish your goals, areas of difficulty and preferred way of learning. Subsequent lessons will be tailored to your course and individual needs, with a greater focus on exam preparation as assessments approach.

I generally recommend two-hour sessions, although shorter lessons are equally welcome.

My lessons are primarily aimed at undergraduate law and NPA Legal Studies students, but I also welcome A-level Law students.
