About Issy
I graduated 3 years ago from Oxford University with a first-class BA in Theology and Religion. I studied a variety of world religions, including the concept of religion itself and the role of religion in the history of civilization, art and literature. Whilst at university, I spent all my spare time doing drama – acting, singing and directing, which led me to decide to train to be a director. I then studied l MA Theatre Directing at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, one of the top drama schools in the UK, where I achieved a Distinction. I am particularly interested in theatre education, working on famous plays such as the works of Shakespeare and making them accessible and exciting for young people. Although I primarily love teaching humanities and ESL, my experience at Oxford means I am able to support students with university applications, personal statement writing and interview preparation, whether that be to Oxbridge or any other university.

I have over 600 hours of tutoring experience ranging from age 4-18. I aim to offer a holistic approach in my tuition, as I believe it is necessary to situate a subject within the context of its surrounding subjects in order to surpass mere understanding and begin questioning what we learn and the ways in which we learn it. I consider this to be particularly pertinent where humanities subjects are concerned; for example, when studying English Literature, we must consider subjects such as history, philosophy, sociology, psychology and theology in order to fully comprehend a text. Where possible, I like to incorporate students’ individual interests into my teaching as I believe this helps to create and sustain a desire to learn.
