About Scott

My long and varied teaching career has been built upon a consistently first-class academic record. To date, I have achieved:

• A first-class BA in English and American Literature and an MA in Studies in Modern Fiction, with distinction.
• A first-class BA in History and Archaeology and MA in Medieval History, with distinction.
• A PhD in Medieval History (at King’s College London, for which I gained a fully-funded scholarship from the AHRC).

Presently, as well as tutoring, I work as an Hourly Paid Lecturer at King's College London and I worked for 5 years as an Associate Lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

Although, I enjoy teaching my subjects to undergraduates and postgraduates, as said, I have years of experience of teaching at a much broader range of levels. What I enjoy most about tutoring is the variety of pupils and students it allows me to teach.

I have been educated to postgraduate level, having recently completed a PhD. In my many years as a tutor, I have taught in a very wide range of contexts, in-person and online, in school classrooms, alternative education centres, university seminar rooms and students’ homes.

I also have experience of teaching students of all ages and levels. I have taught 11+ and 13+ and, having worked as a teacher in an independent school, I also have an insight into what schools are looking for, having marked these papers myself. I have taught Key Stages 3-5, taking students through GCSE and A’ level, providing support both to students in school requiring additional support and to students who are home schooling. I also have considerable experience of teaching my subjects at the highest levels of academic achievement to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

In the course of my teaching, I have helped a large number of students with special education needs, including dyslexia; dyspraxia; attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); autism spectrum disorder (ASD); Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD); Hearing and Visual Impairment; and challenging behaviour.

Although the academic success of my students is always my primary goal, my approach to teaching and tutoring is patient, amiable and pupil-centred. Underpinning all my work is a thoroughgoing professionalism and a dedicated ethos of care. I have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate which I bring to all of my tutorials, so that parents can rest assured that their children are in safe hands.

Generally, my lessons are an hour long, but I am also happy to offer longer lessons where necessary.
