About Andi

I am a first year Classics student at the University of Oxford with 9A*s and 3As at GCSE and A levels in Latin, History, English Literature (and AS Chemistry). I was self-taught in Latin A-Level so have first hand experience in approaching learning independently and establishing a resilient and determined manner.
I will be teaching a weekly Latin class in a local Oxford primary school next year and have some experience tutoring a 12 year old student in Latin. I have also previously mentored students in maths and reading so have established the skills required to conduct helpful and efficient sessions and taught science lessons in primary and SEN schools.
I have worked extensively with children through youth group leading, mentoring, sports coaching, nannying and babysitting and am considering a career in the teaching profession. I am engaging and try to make my lessons fun and interactive since students learn best when they are enjoying themselves, and teachers can provide the most effective education to students who are eager to learn.
I am also compassionate and understanding - I am well aware that Latin is a tough subject so will guide my pupils through with encouragement, providing them with skills for perseverance and resilience.

About the lesson

I work with beginner up to GCSE level students with a particular focus on establishing a firm foundation in grammar and using these skills to approach text and translation. From my degree I have noticed that the most successful students are those who have an exceptional grasp of Latin grammar .
I will begin each session with one or two grammar topics, either consolidating previous knowledge or introducing new subjects. We will work through examples and sample exercises together with a mixture of exam-style based questions and those devised to reinforce the new grammar.
We would then work through a translation passage of an appropriate level to finish the session.

I would expect to be notified of any cancellations the day before the scheduled lesson at the latest, otherwise I will charge up to 50% of the lesson fee depending on circumstance.
