The primary responsibility of every teacher is to meet students where they are and convince them of their capacity to understand and grow. Teaching requires patience, but more than that, it requires teachers to study students to take advantage of their particular interests, skills, and ambitions.
Though I retired from the classroom after 37 years, I am a lifelong teacher—and learner—who has taught English in every grade between 6 and 12. I've also taught American history and humanities, with an emphasis on its social and cultural aspects—art, music, and popular culture. My interests are deep and diverse, and my main driver is curiosity. I seek to inspire that motivation in students.
The price of sessions covers just the session itself and does not include time spent preparing for the session; however, in cases where I'm reading, reviewing, and commenting on essay drafts, I will charge $25/hour.
I ask that students contact me at least 24 hours beforehand via email if they wish to add, reschedule, or cancel a session.
