About David
As I mentioned in my previous statement, I have taught music theory, composition, ear training, orchestration, keyboard, fundamentals, and conducting. I've excelled as both a classroom teacher and as a one-on-one instructor. What I bring to the study of piano is a holistic understanding of the keyboard as an instrument championed by "total musicians," which is to say, musicians who provide both the melodic line as well as the harmony. As a composer, I believe that the piano assumes a level of musical "reality" to the extent that it is the most vital tool in understanding the steps to both composing and performing in a larger ensemble.

I am well versed in both the standard method books as well as the pedagogical needs of beginning-level teen and adult students. I like to combine the hands-on discipline necessary to learn the fundamentals of the keyboard with the results-oriented practices of realizing figured bass, playing from chord symbols and being able to contribute at a high level to performing as a member of an ensemble. Because of my grounding in music theory and composition (which benefited from four years of collegiate-level private instruction) I've proven especially effective in helping students advance to the nation's top conservatories (Juilliard, Curtis, and many others).
