About Katharine
Hello! I'm Katie. I'm a Head of English in a school in London. I've been teaching for four years and am a fully qualified secondary school teacher. I've taught KS3 and GCSE and know the demands placed on students at these levels.
At GCSE, my most academically able students have achieved the top grades - Grades 8s and 9s - but I'm also passionate about making English seem accessible and interesting to all students, so if your child has any learning needs, English is their second language, or they simply find English hard, then I can help!
What you can expect:
During the first session, I identify areas in which a student could improve their reading and writing. After that, I'll plan activities and bring resources to help them progress.
My experience:
I have four years’ experience in teaching English to KS3 (Year 7-9) and KS4 (Year 10-11).
In addition, I'm a current Head of English Department, which reflects my success in helping students make excellent progress in English.
Although secondary school age children (11-16) are who I usually teach, please feel free to contact me if your child is sitting A Levels; I've studied English to university level so can support.
Qualifications:
I studied English and Related Literature at the University of York and achieved a 2:1 and have a PGDE and Qualified Teacher Status. I achieved 13 A*s GCSE (including A* in English Language and Literature). I studied English Literature, French, Philosophy and Ethics and Critical Thinking A-Levels (awarded A/A* in all subjects).
