About Eleanor

I am an experienced teacher and tutor with a strong passion for helping students discover what they are capable of. I graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA and MA in Classics and completed my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. I have three years of teaching experience, alongside previous experience as a teaching assistant and private tutor.

What I enjoyed most about teaching was providing one-to-one clinics and seeing students steadily, and often much more quickly, improve when they received focused support tailored to their individual needs. One of the most rewarding moments was seeing that point where something finally clicked for a student — when a concept or a skill that had previously seemed difficult suddenly became clear and they realised they were capable of doing it themselves.

I believe strongly in academic rigour and encouraging every student to reach their full potential. At the same time, I recognise that students learn most effectively when they receive personalised feedback that identifies exactly what they are doing well and, importantly, what they can do to improve. I therefore make detailed, constructive feedback an important part of my teaching.

I also believe that regular exam practice is essential. Understanding the content is only part of succeeding in an examination; students need to become confident applying their knowledge under exam conditions and learn how to structure precise, well-developed answers. I combine teaching and discussion with guided practice, targeted questioning and exam-style tasks so that students can build both their knowledge and their confidence.

I enjoy teaching because it is incredibly rewarding to see students develop not only academically but also in their confidence and independence. My aim is to provide supportive, challenging and personalised tuition that helps each student make meaningful progress and achieve their full potential.

About the lesson

I take a personalised and structured approach to one-to-one tuition, adapting each lesson to the student's individual strengths, areas for development and academic goals. I aim to build both confidence and strong academic skills, with a particular focus on developing clear, sophisticated analysis and effective essay writing.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although I can adapt the length where appropriate. I use a combination of discussion, guided analysis, targeted questioning, written practice with precise feedback and exam-style questions, giving students the opportunity to apply what they have learnt independently. I can also provide structured programmes of study for students who would benefit from working through the GCSE curriculum systematically.

I have three years' experience as a teacher, alongside previous experience as a teaching assistant and private tutor. I graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA and MA in Classics and completed my PGCE at the University of Cambridge.

I offer tuition for GCSE English Language and Literature, supporting students of different abilities, whether they need to build confidence and strengthen their foundations or are aiming for the highest grades. I also provide targeted support with revision, examination technique, essay writing and developing more nuanced and sophisticated interpretations.
