About Poppy

I am a dedicated and enthusiastic student with a strong passion for English Literature and Language. I genuinely enjoy helping others build confidence in subjects they may find challenging. I know firsthand how much the right support can change a student’s attitude towards English — from feeling overwhelmed by essays and analysis to feeling confident and capable.

I have always loved exploring literature, language, and the power of words, which is why I want to study English Literature and Language further at university. Alongside my own studies, I have experience supporting younger students academically, helping them improve both their understanding and their exam performance.

I want to teach because I believe English should not feel intimidating or boring — it should feel exciting, creative, and something students can actually connect with. Seeing students improve, gain confidence and achieve grades they once thought were out of reach is the most rewarding part of tutoring for me.

I am patient, organised and approachable, and I always aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes — because that is where real learning happens.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centred around making English Literature and Language engaging, interactive and confidence-building rather than just memorising quotes and hoping for the best.

I use active recall techniques, discussion-based learning and personalised teaching methods to help students truly understand texts and improve their critical thinking skills.

I focus on helping students visualise literature, strengthen their vocabulary and develop clear, high-level written expression.
I aim to help students master structure, persuasive writing, unseen text, and exam technique in a way that feels manageable and not overwhelming.
Every student learns differently, so I adapt lessons based on what they need most - whether that’s improving essay structure, building confidence with analysis, learning how to revise effectively, or pushing top-grade students towards the highest marks.

Typical lessons last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the student’s needs and goals. I make sessions productive but also enjoyable, because students learn best when they feel comfortable and genuinely interested.

I have experience tutoring students working at very different levels — from students aiming for Grade 9 at GCSE to students starting at a Grade 2, whom I have helped improve to a Grade 6. I understand how to support both high-achieving students aiming for top grades and those who need extra guidance to build strong foundations.

My lessons are mainly for secondary school students, particularly those studying for GCSE English Literature and English Language, but I can also support younger students who want to strengthen their reading, writing and comprehension skills.
