About Amelie
IMPORTANT: I do not celebrate holidays or birthdays, as I am a Jehovah's Witness. Naturally, I will not speak about my religion or force my beliefs onto my students. If asked, I will mention my religion, but will not elaborate too far. I know this can be a turn off for some people, so I'd like you to know that.
When the subject of holidays comes up, I will ask them about their plans or what they did for the holidays, but I will not say what I did. If asked, I will say "I don't celebrate." I can further explain by saying "I don't celebrate because of my religion" or "I just choose not to." I can discuss this with the parent beforehand, upon request. I will also not say "happy birthday," "merry Christmas," or similar things, due to my beliefs. I will say "I hope you have fun!" or "I hope you get the gifts you want" instead.
ABOUT ME:
As a 15 year old girl who skipped 2 grades, I am often told by older ones that I am enjoyable to talk to, as I behave maturely for my age. I view myself as childish when it comes to having fun, as I enjoy doing things that little kids tend to enjoy (I still request a kids menu at restaurants-- I just love coloring them!!) I believe this is due to me missing part of my childhood, as I had to deal with severe OCD and be partially hospitalized for months and attend exposure therapy for years. I truly understand the struggles of mental health, and now that I am healed, I hope to help others understand and get through their struggles as well.
I love Marvel superheroes (Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers) and would be happy to discuss that or any interest/hobby your child may have. In front of those who I am tutoring, I tend to act unprofessional, as I aim to make it fun for me and my student. I know how difficult it can be to truly process what you are reading and learning, so I try hard to make sure my student understands it well.
Please note that I may not always look my best during our tutoring sessions. I have POTS, a syndrome that causes fatigue. As a result, I feel energized on certain days, but very tired on other days. Please be patient with me if I show up with messy hair or pajamas. Although this is rare, it may happen, but I will try to hide it from my students.

I work best with elementary schoolers, but can do some middle school subjects. I incorporate humor, and can work well with children of special needs/ accommodations. I am best at one on one work. I aim to help the child understand the subject better in a fun, unstressful way.
Typically, our first session will mainly be introductions and getting to know each other. I will usually do a fun, interactive game related to the subject they are learning to try and assess their strengths and weaknesses in the subject.
I aim to make tutoring fun and something that your child will look forward to. I incorporate humor into the lesson, trying to make it as funny as possible. I am great with children of special needs, and have experience working with them. (Autism, ADHD, OCD, ODD) Years of therapy have taught me great coping techniques and grounding techniques. By request, I will gladly incorporate these into our lessons.
I work best when the student has an assignment they need to get done. I will have them explain why the answer is correct, how they got to that answer, and why the other answers were incorrect. This helps them get a grasp on what they are learning, and makes it more hands on.
I am happy to provide summaries on our tutoring lessons, and can provide accommodations by request. I am very flexible, so do not hesitate to voice the needs of your child.
