About Rachel
As someone who has struggled with Reading Comprehension and Writing in the past, I know how it feels. "This is English, shouldn't it be easy?" I used to tell myself.
It's not easy, but it isn't impossible.
I have learned from literature classes and standardized test preparation that English is a multi-faceted subject that requires readers and writers to have a strong grasp of vocabulary, critical thinking, and a touch of creativity. English is more than just a language arts class - it teaches valuable communication skills that will take us far in life.
I am confident that the lessons I have learned will turn into the valuable mentorship you need. I will be there for you every step of the way and celebrate your wins!

When it comes to English Reading and Writing, we will prioritize and target areas of improvement through a mixture of content review and practice questions.
Depending on students' individual needs, each lesson can look different. For example, if the student has a report due for Romeo and Juliet, we will spend time honing literary analysis skills. On the other hand, if a student is struggling with the Critical Reading portion on the PSAT, we will prioritize test-taking strategies and practice SAT-level vocabulary words to improve reading comprehension. Students who are applying to college/university will be given personalized advice on how to craft stellar essays and personal statements.

I struggled with proofreading and grammar and Rachel really helped me with my work. She always champions my strength and give constructive feedback aimed at building me up and improving things I’m not strong at. Overall, a great teacher who feels like a mentor
Hello, I am a former colleague of Rachel Johnston at Baylor College of Medicine for which we participated in the school's graduate program of Biomedical Sciences and Health Equity for more than a year. During this time period, I consistently studied with Rachel who was always determinate in performing beyond just "well" in our classes. Her ambition toward global medicine, studying techniques, and straightforward but sincere drive to help those around her stood out among our cohort. Aside from her current job as a tutor, I can trust in Rachel not just because of our educational-related endeavors but because of her constant unconditional respect and helpful demeanor toward others. Cannot say I would let her write my essays because that would be cheating, but I am 100% confident her writing skills and tips would allow me to ACE my essays regardless of the class. Not sure if my recommendation means anything given my rank, but I stand by my friend as being one of the most trustworthy individuals I know and can confide with.
Rachel is an awesome instructor!
I had a very tough time once I started geometry and algebra II, Rachel found a way to break down the concepts in a way I was able to understand and was very patient. Can’t recommend a better tutorRachel and I studied in our Biochemistry courses together, and she never missed an opportunity to help me when I needed it. She always devised creative ways to teach concepts to me — diagrams, songs, and funny mnemonics are just a few examples. Most of all, I was impressed with Rachel’s character. She was always down to earth and self-deprecating, yet confident and used her strengths to empower others. She taught me how to appreciate my ADHD and to view it as an asset. Though she does not have ADHD herself, she still walked through my learning experiences with me and reminded me that I was never alone. I am indebted to Rachel, and I hope that others have the opportunity to experience her warmth and tenacity as a teacher and role model.
Rachel is an intelligent individual who has been tutoring students since her high school days. Her kind, cheerful demeanour helps put students at ease; when explaining concepts, she is patient, making sure students fully understand the subject.
Rachel Johnston had tutored me in Biology, Chemistry, and Math throughout high school. She was recommended to me by a family friend when I mentioned that I was struggling with science and writing college applications. What I really liked about Rachel that made her stand out among people who have tutored me is how she designed her lessons to fit my learning style. She explained concepts in Biology and Chemistry clearly in detail with diagrams to aid in visual engagement. In Math, Rachel not only patiently helped me improve my understanding on mathematical concepts but also taught me how to tackle any problem in math in a step by step manner. Her skills and experience in writing allowed me to get accepted to my desired college and more recently a summer undergraduate research program. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend Rachel Johnston as a Superprof teacher.
