About Shannon

I am an actor and tutor, trained under the BA Acting course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. My training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has covered Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Jacques Lecoq techniques.

I have worked with top drama school tutors, industry directors, and theatre companies.

I have directed a few productions, such as The Crucible, performed stand-up comedy at the SOHO Theatre, Comedy Store and various comedy clubs across London! I am also an alumnus of the SOHO theatre writers' lab. Currently, I am signed up with a top talent agency in London, and I am working with BBC Comedy under a talent development lab. I have also been invited to the BBC Comedy Festival in Belfast late May.

I have tutored many young students in the LAMDA exams and am familiar with the examining criteria. Furthermore, as a fresh graduate, I also have up-to-date tips on the auditioning process for drama schools, having worked with the panellists for the past two years.

As an actress from the global majority, I also have a unique insight into the industry from this lens and can help guide you into the industry!

About the lesson

I will tailor the classes depending on the student's individual needs, be it for LAMDA exams, drama school entrance or general help with monologues. Lessons are generally about 1 - 1.5 hours long, depending on the student's needs. I have worked with top drama school tutors, audition panellists, as well as coached some students in the LAMDA exams and drama school auditions.

1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?
I started in 2019, tutoring at a community centre for underprivileged kids. There, I found that teaching came very naturally to me as I find it fun to break down concepts and explain them to people, figuring out the 'why' and 'how' in every subject matter is deeply important and engaging for me. I then started to tutor professionally, amassing over 30 clients at one point.
2) Which artists or works affect you the most?
Theatre practitioners such as Bertolt Brecht and Michael Chekhov inspire me a lot. I enjoy watching films with great actors who disappear into their roles such as Helena Bonham Carter.
3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?
Patience, attention to detail, and the willingness to fail.
4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?
Don't shut yourself off to other experiences just to get a project done. Inspiration to create comes from living life, and you can't expect to create great work without having balance.
5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?
It makes me feel excited for the opportunities that are coming, and motivated to push on in the face of adversity.
6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?
Getting into drama school, signing to a reputable agency, performing my own stand-up at professional gigs and writing my own work that's been staged and filmed.
7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?
All the time! Once I had a student who during our first lesson couldn't even recognize basic words, but within two months, started scoring almost full marks in her tests - it was remarkable. Eventually, she got to the point of being so self-sufficient in the language she didn't need to have classes as frequently anymore which was a joy to see.
8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?
Being kind to my students and taking the time to understand their needs.
