About Grace
My name is Grace Smyth and I am a recent graduate from the University of Kent. I grew up in France for 10 years before I moved back home to England in 2012 and continued my studies in French throughout school and my studies at university.
I would love to teach french because French is a romantic, beautiful and great language to learn. It is known to be the second most learned in the world, and the fifth most spoken in the world. The beauty of French revolves around its beautiful language and its culture. It is a fantastic subject to teach as it does not only involve working on vocabulary and grammar, but it also involves digging deeper into its culture. The language of French is the heart of some of the greatest literary works of all time, along with many legendary songs and films. Writers who are greatly admired such as Victor Hugo and Molière, singers such as Édith Piaf and artists like Claude Monet are all a part of the wonderful French culture which I believe is a great aspect of the language to share with students who want to pursue the language itself.

In order to communicate in French effectively, my goal is to guide my students in the development of their literacy and pronunciation skills using modes of listening, speaking, reading and writing. I will teach this based on the communicative approach. The French language and culture are connected; therefore, I want to focus on specific topics about cultural events and everyday matters. I want my students to feel like they are always learning and never feel frustrated or demotivated therefore, I believe that creating some interactive and participative activities, such as discussions, debates or role play will create an enjoyable and cheerful atmosphere that everyone can benefit from using technology.
