With me as your tutor, you can't go wrong! Hi, my name is Elliot, and I am a graduate of Smith College with a degree in liberal arts.
As a tutor, I am super chill but also focused on getting the work done. My main focus is making you feel comfortable and secure in your skills and abilities before moving on to the next step or subject. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I take things at your pace.
A typical lesson plan for me is as follows. If we were working on an essay, it might look like this: The first step is checking in to see how you are feeling about what we are working on that day, and then reviewing what ever you have already written. Then we would focus on the structure of your essay. We start with a thesis statement or topic sentence (depending on grade level) to define what you are writing about, and then we build topic sentences related to the main theme for as many body paragraphs as are necessary. Once we have the topic sentences for your body paragraphs, we would work on fleshing out bullet points or notes for each of the paragraphs so that they flow together nicely. Finally, we would work together on writing an introduction that includes the thesis statement or main topic sentence, and a conclusion that ties it all together.
My lessons are for anyone in elementary or middle school, and I am open to working with high school or college students as well. The subjects I focus on are english, reading, writing comprehension and history.
