About Deepankar

I have been providing lessons for the last eight years, starting with family friends before expanding to local towns. I have tutored 46 students in my career with positive growth in self-confidence, grade improvement, and academic resilience for larger goals down the road. I have taken 19 AP exams during high school, graduated with a B.A. in Biomedical Ethics (neuroscience, philosophy, and economics coursework) and am pursing a Masters in Public Health, specializing in healthcare policy.

About the lesson

Hi there! I am a graduate student pursuing an MPH that has been providing lessons for the last eight years. I provide tutoring for a variety of subjects (life sciences, social sciences, and professional writing) and standardized test prep (AP, PSAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, GRE). I have taught students of various socioeconomic backgrounds and learning needs: I help out students anywhere between elementary school to graduate school.

I approach education with two ideals in mind: creativity and compassion. To foster resilience in any student, we have to support their own creative approaches to learning while also validating them on a human level. With each lesson, I make it a point to coach students through the course material via affirmations and constructive criticism. When my students get stumped on content, we then utilize creative means to approach the content so that the student can still digest information without having to feel hindered. Overall, through creativity and compassion, I have been able to break down very abstract and convoluted subject matter for students and have been lucky enough to discover new approaches from students, themselves.

Structure is everything to my lessons because abstract goals can accomplished through defined goals and consistent practice. I first try to hear the student's perspective on their own understanding of their learning needs: tutoring goals are important here, but I am very attentive to how the student feels about the content and the deeper reasons to why they may not be doing well in learning it. Once we have a schedule, defined goals, and understanding of expectations, we can move forward with lessons: this way, we have relative stability in our sessions even if we hit roadblocks and need more time spent on specific topics of the intended subject matter.

Details

I offer holistic tutoring compared to other students, hence my tutoring fee. This entails an expected lesson schedule but also preparatory work I do in my own time to help research resources and strategies to help my students. At the same time, when I tutor students I also look at multiple dimensions of the student to provide my full support as an instructor (ex: general well-being, academic environment, special learning needs, access to online/physical resources etc).

I have a simple cancellation policy: If the lesson is cancelled by the student with 24 hours of the lesson, then the lesson is still charged for because I have scheduled that lesson for that time slot and put time in preparing for it as well.
