About George
I have a B.S. degree from Indiana State University in Elementary Education. I have over 7 years of experience tutoring and assessing students' skills. I have acquired nearly 10 years of recent experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; including grades K-12 as well as at-risk and special needs students. I was a Lead Tutor under the No Child Left Behind Program.
My education includes 18 credit hours of college mathematics and 12 hours of English/Reading and Language Arts. Math includes Pre-Algebra, geometry, Algebra1, and basic/elementary math. It is vitally important that students get the basic understanding of the principles and the steps for the processes of math in the elementary grades or they will have problems in the future.
I recently completed scoring Indiana ISTEP exams; the math component. I discovered many students are struggling with math and it is best to make the investment in their learning early rather than later. You should look at this as an opportunity to invest in their futures.
The same applies to reading comprehension and language arts. Studies have proven, and support, that students that do not develop basic reading skills by the third grade have problems in the classroom in all subjects. I have also qualified to instruct grammar and spelling.
I typically conduct a pre-assessment/testing to determine your/students skill(s) level. This enables me to plan the best course of action to effect change and success for the student.
I enjoy working with students, watching them learn/grow and feel I would be an asset to your child's/student's learning and growth. I am semi-retired and can afford to lower my rates if the family needs this support to get their student the help they need.

I start by conducting a pre-assessment of the student's skills and determine a plan of action for addressing these concerns. I get to know the student and what is important to them. I integrate this into my lessons. A sort of mentoring and counseling. Work to improve the student's grades and attitude toward learning.
