About Elmo

Studying jazz guitar at the University of North Texas gave me the technical foundation, but the real education happened on the road. I started late myself, which helps me relate to students who feel like they are catching up. Most people find that my approach to reading sheet music and mastering complex barre chords is surprisingly straightforward because I skip the academic fluff.

I have taught hundreds of students to navigate scales, modes, and rhythm guitar patterns through practical application rather than dry memorization. My work with adults retraining or teens under pressure requires a firm grasp on acoustic technique and the maintenance needed to keep an instrument sounding decent. Tuning, chord transitions, and lead guitar theory remain the bread and butter of my instruction, but I prefer to keep things simple...

About the lesson

Clarity is the goal. We start by running a 10 point diagnostic check to see exactly where your playing currently stands before I craft a plan.

This ensures we do not waste time on things you already handle well. Because I spent so many years playing in touring bands, I avoid the standard textbook traps that make music feel like a chore. You will learn to trust your own musical reasoning while we address the mechanics of strumming or complex music theory in a way that actually makes sense. It is honestly quite fun to see someone finally grasp the logic behind the neck.
