About Jack
For my degree, I studied ‘Professional Musicianship’ at The British Institute of Modern Music in Brighton of which my specialist subject was, you guessed it, Guitar. As for my diploma I studied Guitar at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. I already have some teaching experience under my belt but mainly I have developed experience from being in bands, working with other musicians and relentlessly gigging for the past 8 years, being tutored by some of the best guitar tutors in the country and spending most of my life in the company of other guitar players.

Hello! First of all, thanks for taking the time to click on my profile. I’ll start off by saying that I am very flexible in terms of what level I am teaching and what I am teaching. I want to reassure you that I won’t just be going off a standard template teaching style, there will certainly be subjects and techniques I’ll teach all of my students, but first and foremost, want to understand what it is that you want to learn and help you achieve it. I am well versed and most knowledgeable in Chord Theory; this for me is one of the most crucial aspects of guitar playing as it is the best and most effective way for you to understand your fretboard and start seeing things in patterns, helping you confidently develop your own playing style. We will start off by learning the CAGED system and from there, add and subtract certain notes to unlock all those colourful chords you’ve been itching to understand. I primarily started off a rock/indie guitarist, however whilst at university, I began playing in jazz and neo-soul bands; covering all the ground for Tom Misch style playing and all those ‘Instagram’ type of Guitarists (think Curt Henderson & Magus Klausen) resulting in very colourful and pretty compositions. This type of playing forced me to approach songwriting and chord structures differently, and I will show you how to too, in the simplest format. We can delve straight into the soloing side of things if you wish, but for me, Rhythm and Phrasing is so important. I have plenty of exercises to help you with your strumming patterns which will lock you into the groove, making you a confident player. From there we will go through scales and solo techniques. There will be a lot of playing through songs that YOU want to learn after we cover some of the methods I’d like to go through first. I’d also like to cover some basic to intermediate Ear Training (to help you learn how to play by ear, which is imperative for group rehearsal). Any style or any guitarist you aspire to learn; we can do no problem. I’m also a HUGE pedal geek, so if you want to go down that route, we certainly can. I can provide media proof that I can in fact, actually play guitar! I wanted to upload Instagram videos but unfortunately would only allow YouTube videos.

Jack is an amazing teacher, musician, and after even just 10 minutes, an amazing friend too! Over a very short time Jack has helped me to develop my guitar technique while also help me find and perfect my individual style. His enthusiasm is infectious, making the lessons seamlessly fun yet informative, and his attention to detail means he will tailor the lessons to you and your goals. He will give you all the support, patience and encouragement you need, and will go the extra mile to make sure you feel confident in your own abilities. What separates him from other tutors is that not only is he a great teacher, he is an incredible creative to be around! His attentiveness and creative flow rubs off on you immediately, he can help you develop any idea you may have and help you see the bigger picture straightaway. His musicality and knowledge of pedals is also very handy when thinking about taking your guitar playing a step further or perfecting your set up.
