About James
Hi! My name's James and I've been playing guitar my entire life. For as long as I can remember I've been completely obsessed with music.
Since being taught the basics at age 4 by my Dad I've dedicated the rest of my life to mastering my art. I began teaching 7 years ago whilst working on my degree in Popular Music Performance at Leeds College of Music and I've since helped over 40 students develop their skills as musicians, with many of them going on to play their music across the world in bands and as solo acts.

I've dedicated most of my life to figuring out why we love the songs we love, and how we can use that knowlege to write songs for ourselves that everyone else will love. Want to find out how to write a melody that will get stuck in your head for days? Maybe you're dying to find out why your favourite song makes you feel the way it does? If you're serious about developing your skills as a songwriter and guitarist, I'm your guy.
If you're interested in working on your songwriting and composition skills here's my tried and tested method of teaching:
- You send me a song that you love
- We learn the song together
- We break down the song, figuring out why it makes us feel the way it does, and how the composer has approached writing the song
- Finally we write our own song, using everything we've learned
This method is suitable for all abilities and all styles. If you're worried that the songs you love are too dificult to for you to play right now, don't be! Everything can be broken down and simplified. We can strip things down to their fundamentals, and slowly build on things until you wonder why you were ever worried in the first place.
Once I've taken you through the building blocks of music, a whole new world of possibilities will open up to you. Music is not nearly as complicated as you think, and I'm here to show you why!
