My name is Samantha Esparza and I am currently finishing up my Bachelors in Liberal Studies at Holy Names University, located in Oakland California. My goal is to continue on to a graduate program, where I will then receive my Masters in Urban Education, as well as my Single Subject Teaching credentials in English. I am happy to give lessons to any student willing to put in the work and with an end goal. I am comfortable teaching/tutoring in any English field in grades K-College. With Test prep, depending on the subjects, I am comfortable teaching/tutoring K-12 grade, with the exception of science (which is not a strong area of mine). If the student is having trouble being motivated or confident in their work, I am here to help with that as well! I truly believe ANYONE has the potential to be great, we just have to find the appropriate learning style and what best works for them, as each student is completely different which is awesome! My techniques in teaching and tutoring are to first establish a trust and professional bond with my student, so that they may feel comfortable leaning on me for help or glad that I am in their corner and have their back. Then I ask what has worked well for them in the past and what has not. After establish a brief history of their schooling, I like to jump right into flash cards, memory games, explain and repeat, notes, rereading, practice problems, etc. All of these methods work perfectly for any grade level and are adjusted to the students age. I also want to share the fact that I believe in short breaks! It has been proven that after thirty minutes, a student's brain starts to miss information and I want to ensure my student is as comfortable and confident in their learning process as I am. I am a fun, upbeat teacher who is full of energy, however I know when it is time to buckle down and get serious about academics. I look forward to teaching/tutoring you or your student. Thanks! Have a great rest of your day!
I taught through OUSD schools, two summers ago in Bret Harte Middle School, mainly working with 6th and 7th grade. We reviewed mathematical packets and problems from the beginning of the year. I have also volunteered in a private school called St. Jarleths. In this school, I worked with Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 5th grade. We focused in many subjects, as you can see with the grades ranging quite a bit. I was also a gymnastics instructor for three years teaching all ages from 18 months old, up to 18 years old. I have much experience with children/students in all different grade/age levels. Over the years I have taught many students and tutored one on one, quite a few through different schools. My students definitely were able to boost their confidence levels, understand material much more, connect faster to new lessons after fully understanding and being able to explain in detail the previous assignment or lesson and have finished all work on time. I am fun, however I make sure my students stay organized and on top of their work ALWAYS!
If you decide to buy a pack of 5 or 10 hours and view the dollar scale, those prices do not include the travel time which is still $10. Thanks you!
I have a High School diploma and am close to obtaining my four year degree, from Holy Names University, with a major in Liberal Studies, with a focus in English and a minor in Child Development. I have taught many different grades, students and age ranges, including working with bilingual students, learning and better understanding the English language or any other subjects they might be having trouble in. I know some Spanish, but not enough to teach a lesson or explain things in detail, just a few words, however I can understand Spanish well. I also have an app on my phone allowing me to translate, which I can use to help. I would enjoy working with any student. I believe that working with both public and private school students, gives me an advantage, because both work very differently and I have now acquired much knowledge in both environments.
