About Helena
I recently submitted my doctoral thesis in English literature at the University of Oxford, which was fully funded by a competitive scholarship, and before that I gained a Masters in history and an undergraduate degree in English literature and history of art. I am a native English speaker who has experience teaching in all of these subject areas and people of all ages. I am passionate about reading and writing, which is reflected in my academic interests, and believe that my enthusiasm for learning is infectious!
I have also worked as an admissions tutor for the University of Oxford and its colleges, selecting candidates in the faculties of English, history and modern foreign languages, so will be able to assist with the writing of personal statements. While studying for my A levels, I completed the Extended Project Qualification and Critical Thinking examination, so will be able to help tutor these areas too.

My sessions are individually tailored for the needs of each student and I customise my teaching methods accordingly. We will begin each lesson by setting a number of manageable goals, and these learning objectives will determine the content of the tutorial, before being returned to at the end of the class to make sure they have been understood and achieved. I believe that it is important for each tutorial to fit within a broader framework, so that there is a cohesive overall feeling and that links can be drawn between each individual session. Broader, termly objectives will be outlined and these targets will be returned to so that students understand their overarching development as the weeks progress.
